BBL Aftercare and Recovery Tips for Your Skin

If your skin is showing the effects of prolonged sun exposure, acne, aging, or rosacea – you’re not alone. Everyone loves basking in the golden warmth of the sun and enjoying life to the fullest! However, these external factors naturally reflect onto our skin. Wrinkles and laugh lines are natural, sun damage happens if you’re a beach bum, and acne scarring can unfortunately be unavoidable for some of us. While all these skin conditions are natural occurrences, there are ways to treat them while still enjoying the finer things in life.

With a sea of cosmetic solutions within arm’s reach, it may pose a challenge to select which one is right for you. In this blog, we will discuss a safe, non-invasive option with very little downtime: Broadband Light Therapy (BBL). Continue reading to learn about the procedure, BBL aftercare and BBL recovery.

What Is BBL?

BBL or Broadband Light Therapy is a cutting-edge cosmetic procedure that effectively eradicates unwanted freckles, fine lines, sagging skin, age spots, sun damage, rosacea, and visible blood vessels. BBL treats several areas of the body including face, neck, arms, hands and chest. As a result, it gives your skin a full makeover in order to appear more youthful, radiant, firmer, and rejuvenated.

The best thing about this cosmetic procedure is that it harnesses the power of heat and light energy, targets the darker pigments within the dermis, and stimulates the skin’s natural ability to fight discolouration and produce collagen. It then utilizes its state of the art cooling system for enhanced comfort and effectiveness; easily making BBL your new favourite treatment.

BBL Treatment Frequency

BBL treatment frequency is dependent on the severity of your skin condition. For optimal results, skin experts typically recommend three to five treatments spaced approximately four weeks apart. Once your skin concerns have been solved, yearly maintenance would suffice.

BBL Recovery and Possible Side Effects

BBL is a non-invasive, gentle procedure that requires practically zero downtime. In most cases, people can resume their daily routine without any interruptions. These types of treatments are also referred to as “lunchtime procedures.”

After your procedure, it is common for the skin to feel a mild sensation similar to a sunburn for two to four hours. During BBL recovery, specialists recommend that you avoid exfoliants, scented lotions, and aggressive scrubbing for the time being. If the discomfort becomes too much, you can use an ice pack to help alleviate the pain. In most cases, patients experience redness, slight bruising, or flakiness, which can persist for a few hours or days. Once the mild side effects subside, you will notice visibly radiant skin with a smooth and even texture.

BBL Aftercare Instructions

The results of BBL are progressive and gradual, as they occur over a period of approximately two to eight weeks. It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions with regard to BBL recovery and aftercare in order to get the results you desire.

Apply Moisturizer or a Cold Compress to the Area

Step one in our BBL aftercare regime is to apply a soothing moisturizer or aloe vera to the treated areas. This locks in moisture to help prevent the skin from drying up. Unscented, bland products like CeraVe, Neutrogena or Aveeno are recommended during the first week following your procedure.

In the event that you develop scales or scabs, apply a thin layer of antibiotic solution for one week or until the dermis heals completely. Dress with gauze if necessary. If swelling occurs, apply a cool compress or ice pack wrapped in a cloth for five to 10 minutes.

Don’t Scratch or Pick

Refrain from scratching, rubbing, or picking at the treatment site until your skin heals entirely. It’s common that brown patches or spots will look darker after your treatment, but it’s absolutely imperative that you do not pick or scrub these spots – let them come off on their own! The full effects of your BBL treatment depends on this basic yet vital task.

Stay Hydrated

Within the few days after your treatment, the skin is quite prone to drying up. This is why hydration is a key element during your BBL aftercare period. Water is the answer to many of our skincare concerns.

Don’t Use Makeup or Other Topical Skincare Products

Do not use makeup immediately after the procedure. Scents or chemicals found in makeup products and other topical skincare products could irritate the skin and interfere with the healing process. Consider this a time to enjoy your bare-faced beauty.

Avoid Direct Sun Exposure

You may be sensitive to ultraviolet light and direct sun exposure, so your specialist will most likely prescribe mild skin care products and specific instructions on how to apply them to your healing skin. It’s important to note that prolonged sun exposure should be avoided for four weeks before and after treatment. When you do step outside, suit up with a protective wide-brimmed hat and broad-spectrum sunblock. This can be applied over any topical creams or moisturizers that were prescribed to you.

Pain Relievers

If you experience persistent pain, reach out to your doctor regarding advice for an appropriate over the counter pain reliever. In case of itchiness, swelling, or tenderness for an extended period of time, it could be a symptom of an allergic reaction. Let your doctor know immediately.
