How Pimple Scars are Caused
The world is made of nations that all have their own beauty standards and ideals. With such a wide variety in every culture, our planet is one big celebration of diversity. While beauty ideals can differ, there is one common goal that most of us share – we all want clear skin.
Having clear skin often equates to having healthy skin, and healthy skin is beautiful.
In saying this, you probably already know that the most notorious culprit in stealing away the clarity of your skin is pimples. They commonly begin pestering most people at the start of puberty. Teenage acne can last anywhere between five to ten years, and normally subsides during the early 20s. However, this doesn’t mean that you’re out of the woods once you hit adulthood because pimples tend to worsen with people who have oily skin.
Having pimples is one thing, but suffering from pimple scars is a whole other story. If you want to know how they are caused and how to prevent them, you’re in the right place!

What Are the Causes of Pimple Scars?
Pimple scars are the result of inflamed acne. When the skin’s pores are engorged with excess oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells, the follicle walls break, causing a lesion to appear on your skin.
This is your body’s natural response in an effort to repair the skin and tissue. During the healing process, your body will produce collagen, a protein and building block in your skin’s structure. The type of scar that develops, or if one develops at all, depends on how much collagen your body produces. With a shortage in collagen, a deep scar could form, but with too much collagen, a raised one could develop.
Types of Pimple Scars
Typically, there are two types of scars: depressed and keloid.
Depressed Scarring
Depressed scarring can be further categorized into the following:
Ice Pick Scars:
This type of scar resembles the ice pick tool that has a wide shaft and narrows down to the tip. This indent goes deep into the dermis, and is considered one of the most challenging scars to heal. Ice pick scars commonly form on thinner areas of the skin, such as the forehead and upper cheeks.
Rolling Scars:
Rolling scars have sloping edges that make the skin appear uneven or wavy. These kinds of scars typically develop on thicker parts of the skin, such as the lower cheeks and jaws.
Boxcar Scars:
Also commonly formed on the lower cheeks and jaw, boxcar scars are indentations with sharp edges that go deep into the skin.
Keloid Scarring
Keloid scars are the opposite of depressed scars. They are lesions of scar tissue that rise above the surface of the skin, and are caused by an overgrowth of collagen. Keloid scars tend to be tender, painful, and itchy and are usually found on the chest, shoulders, jawline, and back region.
How to Prevent and Treat Pimple Scars
Having a few pimple scars is nothing to be ashamed of, but no one can deny that these little indents can cause both physical and emotional pain. When pimple scars start to cause discomfort or make you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or depressed, it becomes more than just an aesthetic issue. Luckily, there are many non-invasive cosmetic solutions you can turn to in order to restore your skin back to its original beauty and radiance.
Harmony Med Spa takes pride in its pimple scar treatments in order to help people boost their self-confidence with clearer, healthier, and more beautiful skin.
PicoSure Laser Treatment
PicoSure is a laser procedure that works by gradually removing damaged layers of skin. It also stimulates the production of collagen, which supplements the skin’s renewal properties. What sets PicoSure apart from other heat-powered treatment methods is that it triggers the body’s immune system, allowing the scarred skin to heal in texture, colour, and appearance.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that requires little to no downtime. It works by exfoliating the skin to create a smoother and brighter appearance. This method works great for reducing the appearance of shallow pimple scars.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels exfoliate the skin in a controlled manner by means of a chemical solution. Harmony Med Spa offers various types of peels, ranging from light to deep.
Depending on your specific needs, our skincare specialists can recommend which one would benefit you best. Afterwards, all you have to do is follow a few aftercare tips, and you will soon see your skin recover back to a healthy glow.
